An October 10 auction of paintings by 14 famous Vietnamese artists will raise funds to support contemporary artists.

The paintings will be exhibited at Bui Gallery at 23 Ngo Van So Street between October 1 and 9.

Bui Gallery and the British Council are co-organizing the auction, the proceeds of which will be used to help both established and aspiring artists attend training courses across the country and overseas.

The event falls on the 1,000th birthday of Hanoi and nearly 20 paintings will be put up for bidding.

According to the British Council, artists will narrate most accurately the story of Vietnam's progress.

Contemporary artists will not only give a picture of Hanoi of today, also provide new perspectives on the old Hanoi, it said.
