Vietnam's first factory to manufacture wind turbine power generators
The first factory in Vietnam to manufacture wind turbine power generators opened on Friday in the northern city of Hai Phong.

Local news website VnExpress reported that during its first phase, the factory will produce generators for 1.5 megawatt turbines. It is expected to produce around 10,000 tons of products every year and to expand production in coming years.

The factory stretches out over more than 8.4 hectares at Hai Phong Nomura Industrial Zone, 120 kilometers from Hanoi.

It was constructed by the US-based GE Energy, a leading wind energy company and wind turbine supplier, with an investment of US$61 million. The factory is planned to become the world’s leading manufacturer of wind and air turbine components.

Power generators running wind turbines have only appeared in a few countries throughout the world.

Gergo Lencses, general director of the GE Energy branch in Hai Phong, said each generator weighs around eight tons and can provide electricity to up to 400 households.
