101 photos of General Vo Nguyen Giap released
101 photos featuring the legendary General Vo Nguyen Giap are on display in Hanoi, as part of a series of activities celebrating the 66th anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army.
The photos, taken since the 1980s by Tran Tuan, captured General Giap’s visits to former revolutionary base Tan Trao in Tuyen Quang province, and the former battle field Dien Bien Phu in Dien Bien province.
They also include his meetings with heroic Vietnamese mothers, scientists and historians, former US defense secretary McNamara and foreign dignitaries.
Tuan hopes the exhibition, co-sponsored by the Vietnam News Agency and launched on the 66th anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army (December 22), will be a present to the General as he is 101 years old.
General Giap, famous for leading the Vietnamese army to victory over the French in 1954, is considered one of the best military strategists in Vietnam and in the world.
