The Ministry of Construction has proposed that the Ministry of Transportation punish the leaders of one of its project management units for causing losses worth VND124.9 billion (US$6.4 million) to the state budget.
According to inspectors from the construction ministry, Project Management Unit No.1 (PMU1) made many mistakes and has demonstrated signs of “irresponsibility” in its management of two national roadway projects.
One was an upgrade of National Way No.12 in the north, and the other was the extension of National Way No.1 in the Mekong Delta.
Mistakes were detected in the process of making, assessing and approving estimates related to the projects, according to the inspectors' findings.
The transport ministry should review responsibilities and apply suitable punishments to general director and deputy general directors of PMU1 who have been in charge of the projects since 2006, according to the inspectors.
