Vietnam gets 19.5 pct more international tourists

The number of international tourist arrivals in the first two months increased 19.5 percent to 1.06 million, according to the General Statistics Office.

More than 590,000 foreign tourists came to Vietnam in February, a year-on-year rise of 21.6 percent.

Of them, around 191,000 were from China, a 39 percent rise over the same period last year. There were around 102,000 visitors from South Korea, 96,600 from the US, and 92,800 from Japan.

Festivals were the main attraction in the first two months, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT).

The VNAT has set a target of around 5.3 million international tourists and 30-31 million domestic tourists this year.

It expects revenues from tourism to top VND110 billion (US$5.5 billion), or around 4.5 percent of GDP.
