Hoang Sa Island festival honors unknown heroes

A festival kicked off Monday morning in An Vinh village in Ly Son district, Quang Ngai province to pay homage to soldiers who guarded Hoang Sa and Truong Sa (Paracel and Spratly) islands for hundreds of years.
Hundreds of tourists attended the festival.
The festival featured mini models of ships and mighty navy forces that protected the Paracel and Spratly from foreign invasion. 
Le khao le the linh Hoang Sa or Hoang Sa Troop Feasting Festival is a unique rite practiced on Ly Son island by families whose relatives participated in Hoang Sa – Truong Sa Teams that were mobilized by Nguyen Lords and then Kings either to seek sea treasures or to protect territorial waters.
An Vinh temple for (the souls of) the dead is a worship place for unlucky dead troops. And like many other temples in the province, it is also a place to worship war martyrs.
