The new Hanoi Museum has the shape of an inverted pyramid |
The Hanoi Museum, exhibiting 50,000 relics, will open on October 6 in celebration of the city’s 1,000th anniversary on October 10, local news website VnExpress said Sunday.
Ngo Thi Thanh Hang, deputy chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, said construction of the museum was basically done.
Work on the VND2.3 billion (US$118,000) museum started in May 2008|.
An ornamental plant display will be organized on three hectares of the museum on the opening day.
The Hanoi Museum is an inverted pyramid spread over nearly 5.4 hectares with four stories and two basements.
The museum comes into being after a long wait by local historians and archeologists. It was first planned 20 years ago.
However, it is reported that many relics in the city excavated since 1982, including the arms depot from the Le dynasty (1428 - 1788) found 30 years ago and those unearthed from around the Co Loa Citadel belonging to the Au Lac kingdom (258 - 207 BC) found in May this year, have not been housed properly.
These items are being kept temporarily at different places in Hanoi and it’s not easy for any historian to enter, even with a reference from concerned agency, so no one knows exactly how many of items there are and what their value is.
It is said that several objects have not been seen again by archeologists themselves after they were unearthed.
