Gangs chase int’l footballer, hack with swords
Chi Cong, center defender of the Vietnamese national football team and the V-League club Binh Duong, was assaulted Tuesday evening with three cuts on his hand and back after being chased by a big gang on a street in Binh Duong province.
The 28-year player told Tuoi Tre he was attacked after leaving Binh Duong stadium – 30km from Ho Chi Minh City – at 21:00 with a friend on a bike and on his way towards a local restaurant in Thu Dau Mot town for dinner.
Suddenly, a group of 8-10 young men stopped him on the street and attacked him with swords, Cong recalled.
Though bearing two cuts on his hand, Cong left his friend who was not targeted and the bike, to run away for 300m but was intercepted for the second time by another group of 6 men.
There, one of them attacked Cong with a big knife but luckily he was only hit by the back of the knife blade and suffered a minor injury on his back.
He escaped and hid in a house nearby where he was given first aid before calling one of his teammates to take him to a local hospital.
Local investigation police guessed the attack was just meant as a warning to Cong for a certain disagreement. Otherwise, the player could hardly survive and escape from such 16 attackers with weapons.
Investigation is on-going.
