Mud, ash strangely erupt in central Vietnam

Mud eruptions have recently broken out in Suoi Da hamlet, Loi Hai commune, Thuan Bac district in the central province of Ninh Thuan, attracting much attention and curiosity from numerous people.
Ho Van Hung – director of the province’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment - asked relevant authorities to carry out a research into the mud holes in an effort to seek effective solutions.
According to Hung, a broken geological layer could be the main cause of the phenomenon.
He added in short-term the Department will keep a close watch on the eruption mouths.
Meanwhile the local authorities have sent staff to protect these mud holes and prevent curiosity-seekers and livestock from approaching the scene, which could pose dangers to them.
According to local people, some rice fields in Suoi Da hamlet have been covered in 30cm of mud during the past one month.
Five mud holes have been reported so far with the largest being 7m deep and 2m in diameter.
The ash erupted from the mud holes has no special smell and is of normal temperature.
