Resigned VietnamNet’s chief appointed new post

Nguyen Anh Tuan who has just announced his resignation as editor-in-chief of online newswire Vietnamnet was appointed deputy head of the Vietnam Digital Communications Association (VDTA) which was set up in Hanoi today.
Minister of Information and Telecommunications, Le Doan Hop, was elected as Chairman of the association.
VDT Association was founded by voluntary individuals and organizations in the digital telecommunications field to promote research and application of electronic data for the country’s industrialization and modernization.
Addressing the event, Nguyen Thanh Hung, Deputy Minister of Information and Telecommunications underlined that the establishment of the VDT Association contributed to achieving the development goals of the information technology and communications sector in Vietnam.
Tuan used to work at a post office in Khanh Hoa province and then deputy director of VDC in Hanoi.
In 1996, Tuan was selected as one of the 10 most exemplary figures in Vietnam.
Tuan is instrumental in developing VietnamNet in its early days. At the time, he was both VietnamNet’s editor-in-chief and director of VASC, a service company under state monopoly Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Group.
When VietnamNet was transferred to the Ministry of Information and Communication for management in 2008, Tuan continued his editorial post.
Last year, Tuan said that he deemed it necessary to transfer power to younger people.
Since November last year, VietnamNet was many times hacked. Hackers at one time managed to delete all contents from the newspaper and posted some sensitive information regarding internal affairs of the newswire and its security source code.
