VN-US trade decreases to $1.6 bln in February

Two-way trade between Vietnam and the US in February 2011 was down by 6.8 percent from January to US$1,598.1 million due to decreased Vietnam 's exports.
According to an April 12 report by the US Department of Commerce, in the second month of this year, the US imported from Vietnam $1,245.1 million worth of goods, a decrease of 9.8 percent from January. However, Jan.-Feb. import value was up by 19 percent over the same period last year, reaching $2,626.8 million.
United States International Trade Commission's data showed that value of all Vietnam 's key exports to the US in February 2011 saw decreases in comparison with January but increases over the same period last year.
Articles of apparel and clothing accessories retained the first ranking with export value of $513.7 million, down 6.4 percent from January.
Taking the second place was footwear with export value of $147.5 million, down 13.6 percent. It was followed by furniture with export value of $144.5 million, an 8.8 percent decrease from January; and electrical machinery and equipment and parts with value reaching $56.7 million, down 18 percent from the same period last year.
Coming next was fish and aquatic invertebrates with export value standing at $48.9 million, also down 20.7 percent from a month earlier.
Also in February, the US exported goods at a total value of $353 million, up 5.5 percent from January's export value. US exports to Vietnam in the first two months of this year reached $687.6 million, up by 28 percent over the same period last year.
Coming first was machinery and mechanical appliances parts thereof with value reaching $41 million, an increase of 31 percent over January's value. It was followed by cotton, including yarns and woven fabrics thereof, with value of $36.3 million, down 39 percent from a month earlier; iron and steel (with value of $29.6 millio, up 35 percent); vehicles with value up 22 percent to $24.9 million; and electrical machinery and equipment (with value of $21.6 million, down 6 percent)
