Dao Thu Huong (3rd R) and the gang she led were arrested by Hanoi police on Monday after they allegedly raped a girl and stole her belongings

Police in Hanoi on Monday said they have arrested a group of teenagers led by a 14-year-old girl that engaged in rape of minors and robbery.

The arrest came after the police were informed by 15-year-old Nguyen Thi Thao of Dong Da District on Friday that she had been gang-raped before being robbed off her motorbike and cell phone.

Initial investigations led the police to arrest Nguyen Duc Hoang, Hoang Trong Dat, both 18, and the only female member and gang leader Dao Thu Huong, 14, better known as My Soi (My the wolf).

They later arrested Trinh Thang Long, 18, Tran Hoang Nam, 18, Au The Doan, 18, Nguyen Xuan Thang, 17, and Le Quang Vinh, 19.

Huong told the police that she'd had personal conflicts with Thao, and had suggested that Long kidnap Thao and sell her to a brothel.

She texted Thao as a boy who wanted to get to know her and set a date.

Huong went with three boys to force Thao to a guest house, where Dat, Long, Hoang, Phong and Doan took turns to have sex with her. Thao’s arms and legs were held and the process was filmed.

The gang pawned Thao’s motorbike for VND10 million (US$522) and sold her cell phone for VND250,000.

Earlier, Huong had made friends with two other girls on the Internet to force them to be sex workers but both managed to escape, one after being raped by boys in the gang.

Further investigation is ongoing, police said.
