The scene of Friday's deadly knife attack in downtown Ho Chi Minh City |
A deadly knife fight broke out in Ho Chi Minh City on Friday night, claiming the lives of two friends and leaving another critically injured. It all started over a close call on two motorbikes.
Nguyen Minh Duc, 27 died from five stab wounds; Nguyen Chi Dung, 26, was felled by just two.
Their friend, Hoang Dinh Hung, also 27, survived his trio of wounds. Police say he was the man to strike the first blow.
According to investigators, the three men were riding on two motorbikes down Cong Quynh Street in District 1 when they nearly collided with two young men on another bike.
A heated argument ensued and Hung took off his belt and helmet and whipped the two young men, who remain at large.
What happened next seems like a scene from a Kung Fu film. One of the yet unidentified young men allegedly produced two knives and began stabbing Hung and his friends.
Police are hunting the murderer, saying the case is “serious.”
Hung’s wife was quoted in a report on new website VnExpress as saying Hung and his two friends went out to drink beer before the incident.
“It’s probably the beer that caused Hung to lose his temper; he’s usually gentle,” said the wife, whose name was not mentioned in the report.
The VnExpress report also quoted witnesses as saying the attack happened on a crowded street but no one dared to interfere after seeing the knives.
