Vietnam plans $34 mln for mathematics upgrades

Vietnam will spend VND651 billion (US$34 million) on developing the country’s mathematical capacities by 2020, according to a decision recently approved by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.

The project will seek expand university math departments into centers of research and training in addition to enhancing the quality of teachers and lecturers.

The plan, which is expected to launch this year, will also plan to improve training programs for students who display an interest or talent in mathematics.

It will include funding for mathematical research, and local and international conferences.
