Banks to ban face masks in ATMs

If banks have their way, people may have to take their face mask and helmet off in automatic teller machine (ATM) booths beginning next year.
According to a proposal by the State Bank of Vietnam, the new rule would make it easier to solve customer issues, mostly the loss of money from their accounts.
Booth cameras are often used to identify people making ATM transactions but they are not much use if the face is covered with masks and helmets.
The rule, which is one of the draft laws concerning ATM transactions, would help banks resolve user complaints more effectively, said Nguyen Thi Thanh Hang, director of Card Department at the Bank of Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank),
Users who don’t follow the rule won’t have their problems solved, the central bank has said in its proposal.
The proposal has been approved by most banks. It is still open for discussions and expected to take effect early next year.
