Woman to stand trial after sedating trick kills two

Police in the Mekong Delta’s Long An Province on Sunday proposed robbery and murder charges against a woman whose trick to sedate and rob people killed two last year, VnExpress said.

According to the police documents sent to Long An’s prosecutors, Dao Thi Ngung, 50, of Binh Duong Province that neighbors Ho Chi Minh City, made regular offerings at pagodas in southern provinces including Long An to get familiar with nuns, monks and worshippers before offering them candies or coffee mixed with narcotics and robbing them.

In February, Ngung sedated Pham Thi Hong in Ben Tre Province to rob earrings worth VND200,000 (US$10) but Hong died of an overdose.

A month later, she killed Vo Thi Xieu of An Giang Province in similar fashion to rob VND800,000 ($40).

Before being caught in Binh Duong October last year, Ngung had carried out many sedation robberies, including one that fetched her 2.8 taels of gold and VND700,000 donated by Buddhists to a pagoda in Long An Province.

She sedated three nuns in this robbery.

Ngung began the sedation trick after being released from a 18-year jail term for robbery and escaping from jail.
