Democracy abusing reporter granted bail

A blogger and freelance reporter who was arrested last November for posting entries with “distorting information” about a vice police minister has been released on bail after two-month remand.
Police said Le Nguyen Huong Tra, 36, will be banned from traveling while further investigations are underway.
Tra was charged with “abusing democracy and freedom of the rights of speech, damaging the interests of the State and legal rights of organizations and individuals” under the Criminal Code.
The police said Tra, known as Co Gai Do Long in her blog, had published some entries on her blog with damaging information about the family of a vice Minister of Public Security, which affects the reputation of people involved.
Tra is a freelance reporter of several Ho Chi Minh City-based newspapers. Her blog, now closed, was listed among the most viewed blogs in Vietnam.
