Ex gold weightlifter banned 2 years for doping

The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) confirmed Thursday its decision to ban Vietnamese weightlifter Hoang Anh Tuan, 26, from world competition for two years till 2012 for using doping.
Two of his samples tested positive to doping at the World Weightlifting Championship held last year in Turkey, IWF announced.
Tuan registered to compete in men’s 56kg event at the tournament. However, he was withdrawn midway after organizers announced initial results that Tuan failed the doping test.
With the IWF decision, Tuan will be forbidden to involve in weightlifting until September 18, 2012.
In addition, the Vietnam Weightlifting Federation is ruled to pay a fine of US$5,500 for the athlete’s infringement.
Payment must be made within 30 days since the date of the announcement - on January 20.
Tuan got a gold medal at the 2005 World Youth Weightlifting Championship, a gold at the 2005 Asian Weightlifting Championship.
In 2006, he clinched both silver medals at the Asian Olympic Games and the Beijing Olympic Games.
