“Death” manhole occurs in HCMC busy street
A manhole over 2m deep appeared on District 3’s Nguyen Dinh Chieu busy street near CMT8 street in Ho Chi Minh City, posing threats to street-goers and increasingly causing concern among the public as well.
The traffic inspector(s) quickly arrived at the scene to deal with the case.
They confirmed that the hole occurred on a post office’s underground tunnel, which has just been constructed.
They also pledged to hold the investor of the project liable for the careless infrastructure work.

Last October, Ha Thi Tuyet Mai, 42, was run over by a truck when her motorcycle toppled after hitting a manhole cover in Kha Van Can Street in Thu Duc District.
She died instantly but her 13-year-old son escaped unhurt after falling on the pavement.
Also last year, holes up to two meters deep appeared on Nguyen Kiem, Phan Van Tri, Hai Ba Trung, and Tran Nhat Duat Streets, posing a serious threat to drivers, especially on motorbikes.
The most notorious one -- in an alley off Le Van Sy Street in District 3 -- trapped a taxi last September, with photos all over the media showing the vehicle half inside it.
Since July 2008 dozens of people have been killed on the city’s streets in accidents caused by careless infrastructure works.
