Film week to screen world’s disaster movies

HCMC-based BHD Cinema will open a film week screening well known Asian and Hollywood disaster movies to raise awareness about environmental issues this Sunday.
The event, titled “Film for Humanity Week,” is to mark World Environment Day and remember victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
The movies to be screened, all of which explore the theme of man-made natural disasters and environmental problems, include the Korean blockbusters Tidal Wave and The Host, a 2006 movie that still holds Korea’s all time box office record of 13 million tickets sold.
Others are China’s Aftershock, which won the Best Picture at the 2010 Asian Movie Awards and Japan Sinks, a Japanese movie winning Best Visual Effects at the same award in 2007.
Hollywood’s 2012 about mankind’s doomsday is also on the screening list.
Five percent of ticket sales will be sent to the Japanese victims.
The movies will be screened at BHD Star Cinema, at No. 3-3C, 3/2 Street, District 10. Tickets cost VND 40,000 each.
