Viettel increases 3G coverage in Mekong Delta
Vietnam military-run telecom firm Viettel has installed 1,100 3G more base transceiver stations (BTS) in 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta, up 48 percent against the current number of BTSs there.
With nearly 7,100 2G and 3G BTS, Viettel will continue to gain the largest number of BTS in the region, according to newswire Vneconomy.
Its average ratio of 3G BTS compared with 2G BTS in this area reached 87 percent, higher than the country's average ratio of 65 percent. Of which, the regional hub, Can Tho City, reached the highest ratio of 95 percent.
While the number of 2G BTS in the Mekong Delta accounted for 14 percent of Viettel's total BTS nationwide, the number of 3G BTS accounted for nearly 20 percent. The region accounts for 20 percent of the population and 12 percent in terms of land area out of the country's eight key economic zones,.
Additionally, along with increasing the capacity of 3G networks, Viettel has previously brought optical cable accessibility to all regional districts.
This group said the increase of 3G coverage in the region is one of the priority policies of Viettel to provide basic telecommunication services, especially wireless broadband Internet services in this region.
