Da Lat to throw flower festival in December

Da Lat City will throw its fourth flower festival, the 2012 Da Lat Flower Festival from this December 30 to January 3 next year.

Themed “Da Lat, the City of Flower Festivals”, this year’s festival is expected to cost VND17billion (US$850,000) with VND5billion (US$250,000) coming from the government budget and the rest from sponsors.

The festival will include art performances, street festivals, flower exhibitions, flower markets, parades, a workshop on flowers and a wine tasting event.

Of these, Nguyen Vu Hoang, the festival's general director, said the highlights will be the “Flowers and Light” Street Festival which will cover an area of 3,500 square meter with dance performances and lights and flower decoration and a "Space of flowers" exhibition near Xuan Huong Lake to showcase buildings made of flowers representing five continents in the world as well as a biggest-ever exhibition of tulips.

The Langbiang Festival including a mountain climbing contest and a paragliding performance will also take place within the framework of the festival.

Since it was first launched in 2005, the biennial event has become a popular tourist attraction in Da Lat.
