Michael Jackson night held to mark legend’s death

Fans in Hanoi joined the Youth Theater last Saturday night to commemorate the second anniversary of the Michael Jackson’s death in a three-hour show titled One Name, one legend: Michael Jackson and more.

“It’s been two years since he left but he is still in our heart. This show is dedicated to those who love the King of Pop. They can sing, dance or share their emotions about this legend,” said Linh Huyen, an organizer.

In the first part themed Michael Jackson is Back, members of the Michael Jackson fan club in Hanoi performed Beat it as background music. A young boy suddenly appeared and moonwalked to the beat of Billie Jean. One of Jackson’s fans, Tu Michael, also participated in the event and showed off his dances, making audience clap their hands and dance with his moves.

Excited as the audience was, they soon got quiet when guest singer Dinh Manh Ninh performed the ballad song Childhood.

The first part was dedicated to classic hits by the King of Pop whereas second part was about remixes. Three young men Quyet Kratos, Linh ABC and Khanh Bad joined together in a performance called Breaking news, featuring remixes of Michael Jackson’s songs like They Don’t Care About Us, Dangerous, Librarian Girl in Jazz and Hip Hop style.

Most expected at the show was Minh Kien, one of the so-called heirs of Michael’s moonwalking techniques. He showed up at the end of second part and danced to famous songs like Scream, History, and Billie Jean.

The last part, themed Michael Jackson with Rock, featured Rock hits like Earth song, Black or white and Give it to me. The audience was thrilled to see Dang Quan, a 10-year-old fan nicknamed Little Jackson. Quan not only dressed up in the King of Pop’s style but also made similar facial expression and imitated Michael’s signature dances.

Besides performances, there was also an auction event to raise money for the Heal the world fund founded by Michael Jackson fan club in Hanoi. A red leather jacket in Michael Jackson style and a magazine about the King of Pop were two auction items.

Surprisingly, the winners were two singers who participated in the event. Singer Ha Hoai Thu bidded VND10 million (US$490) for the jacket and Minh Chuyen got the magazine for VND5 million.

The most touching moment was when melodies of We are the world started to sound off and when artists and audience all lit up their candles and sang together.
