Golden Album: not close to local market
Though the fourth Vietnamese Golden Album Award ceremony, which was held Monday night, was popular, it is still not a good representation of the local music market.
Running from June 2010 to May 2011, the award gathered 55 albums performed by local singers at its monthly live shows.
At Ho Chi Minh City’s Nguyen Du stadium, where the ceremony took place, local singers Tung Duong, Dam Vinh Hung and Nguyen Vu won the Golden Album of The Year medal for their music albums “Li Ti(Tiny),” “Nhung Bai Ca Khong Quen (Unforgettable Songs)” and “Nguyen Vu Special”, respectively.
“Acous ’84” and “Le Cat Trong Ly” by Ha Anh Tuan and Le Cat Trong Ly won the Impressive Album category.
First launched in 2008, the award has attracted the public’s attention and become a familiar playground for local singers to showcase their music albums for audiences.
However, it is still not a good representation of the local music market.
However, it is still not a good representation of the local music market.
A Golden Album is not the best-selling one of the year or vice versa.
“Khuc Tinh Xua (Old Love Song)” performed by Le Quyen is an example. According to its publisher Viet Tan Studio, this album sold 20,000 copies in 2010 (a high number at the time) but only received two small awards: Impressive Album and Album with Best Design at the monthly Golden Album show in October 2010.
Several albums which drew attention of public and media last year, including“Bien Bay Gio Mua Dong (Sea in Winter)” by Duc Tuan, “Ngay Xa Em (The day you go away)” by Dinh Nguyen, “The unmake-up” by Doan Trang and “Ai Con Cho Ai (Who is waiting for whom)” by Anh Khang, were not introduced at Golden Album Gala 2010.
This is because organizers only present albums that are submitted to the gala by singers and do not pay attention to other albums on the market.
