Vietnam’s live-fire sea military drill is normal
The Vietnamese foreign ministry spokesperson admitted Vietnam has conducted a two-day live-fire military drill on Vietnamese seas off the central region but denied conducting any drill on the East Sea.
According to the online Vietnamese-language newspaper of the government at baodientu.chinhphu.vn, foreign ministry’s spokesperson Nguyen Phuong Nga told the press Monday that “at the present time, navy forces of the Vietnam People’s Army do not conduct drills on the East Sea”.
The aforementioned live-fire drill is part of an annual training program of a navy unit on Hon Ong region of the seas belonging to Quang Nam province [in the central region] on June 13 and 14, added spokesperson Nga.
To ensure safety in the region, agencies in charge of the drill have to report to the Ministry of Transport’s Department of Maritime Safety, the spokesperson added.
