Vietnamese children’s choir tops international contest

A Vietnamese children’s choir won the first prize of Folklore Music at the 7th International Johannes Brahms Choir Competition & Festival held on July 6-10 in Germany.
With 37 members aged 6-16, the choir from Sol Art Center for Children in Hanoi also won other titles, including an Audience Price and an Outstanding Performance.
Dang Chau Anh, Sol Art’s choir director and a lecturer at the Vietnam National Academy of Music said she and the choir were moved and proud that Vietnam’s traditional art was again recognized by the world.
Founded three years ago, Sol Art’s choir has won numerous international awards including a silver prize at the 2011 International Choir Competition held in Hoi An this March and a bronze medal at the 2009 World Choir Championship held in Korea.
The International Johannes Brahms Choir Competition & Festival, organized by INTERKULTUR, an organization known for sponsoring and holding the world’s biggest choir competitions, awards prizes in 4 categories: Chamber Choirs - Vocal Ensembles, Children's and Youth Choirs, Sacred Choral Music and Folklore Music.
This year's competition attracted 40 choirs from 17 countries around the world.
