A five-day event to celebrate the 60thanniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and China was inaugurated in Beijing Monday.

Known as “Vietnamese days in China”, the event also aimed to celebrate the 65thanniversary of Vietnam's National Day (September 2).

The event will include economic and investment forums, meetings between government representatives, and traditional art performances.

Also Monday, the Communist Youth Union’s Central Committee announced the completion of a successful youth exchange program between the two countries in China’s Quangxi province.

The five day program saw 3,000 Vietnamese youth join their Chinese counterparts in many activities including construction of a friendship wall, Lam Phuong Thanh, secretary of the committee, told the press.

The Vietnamese delegation also granted US$30,000 in aid to Gansu province, which lost more than 1000 people to floods and mudslides early this month, Thanh said.
