70 artists to grace folk music festival

The 4th Vietnamese Folk Music Festival for the Central Highlands and Binh Phuoc Province opens today in Dak Nong Province’s Gia Nghia Town and will continue until Sunday.
The event, held every two years, aims to collect original folk melodies and discover talented artists who can contribute to preserving and developing the traditional folk music of minority ethnic groups.
About 90% of the artists are new to the festival, according to the organizing committee.
A total of 70 artists from five provinces of Dak Nong, Lam Dong, Kon Tum, Daklak and Binh Phuoc will give 22 performances, covering a wide range of folk music genres. The youngest artist was born in 1993 and the oldest in 1937—both are residents of Kon Tum.
