Luu Thi Diem Huong (C) of Ho Chi Minh City is Miss Vietnam World 2010

Luu Thi Diem Huong, a 20 year old student in Ho Chi Minh City, beat 41 other Vietnamese beauties from around the world to win the Miss Vietnam World 2010 title on Saturday night.

Nguyen Ngoc Kieu Khanh of Germany and Pham Thuy Vy Victoria of the US were named first and second runner-up in the crowning event of the pageant in Nha Trang, which was telecast live nationwide.

Speaking to the press after her victory, Huong believed her answer about Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam, Vietnam’s first national university in Hanoi, in the final interview round helped her win the title.

The university, also known as the Temple of Literature, is “a cradle of the traditional fondness for learning of all Vietnamese,” Huong said during the question-and-answer part of the competition. “We can be proud of ourselves for this great tradition,” she said.

Apart from the title, the student majoring in tourism management also won a cash prize of VND500 million and a crown worth VND1 billion.

Miss Vietnam World was initiated in 2007 by Thanh Nien newspaper, Tien Phong newspaper, and Vinpearl Land Tourism JSC to celebrate the beauty of Vietnamese women all over the world.

This year’s competition wrapped up just one week after another major beauty contest in the country, Miss Vietnam 2010.
