A man was killed Saturday in an explosion at his home in Ho Chi Minh City.

Thirty-nine-year-old Tran Huu Mai's severed arm was found 30 meters away from his mutilated body.

Local residents said they heard two explosions before the first floor of the house collapsed. Debris was found tens of meters away from the site.

The second blast was several minutes after the first one and shook many buildings in the area, locals said.

Mai's mother was on the ground floor at the time and managed to escape before the building collapsed.

Local residents said Mai often experimented with chemicals at home. Some were found among the ruins.

Police are investigating the case further.
