Vietnam welcomes European airlines

The aviation administration of Vietnam said it will facilitate European airlines to launch flights to the country.

“We welcome any carriers that are qualified to fly to Vietnam,” said Vo Huy Cuong, head of the administration’s Air Transport Department.

Vietnam and the European Union have just signed an aviation agreement removing nationality restrictions in the bilateral air services agreements between EU member states and Vietnam. This agreement will allow EU airlines to operate flights freely to Vietnam.

Cuong said under the agreement, carriers will be allowed to set their prices based on market demand. Aviation authorities will only interfere when there are signs of “unhealthy competition,” he said.

German airlines Lufthansa and Air France are two EU carriers that operate flights to Vietnam. National carrier Vietnam Airlines also flies regularly to France and Germany.
