Vietnam to hike electricity prices from March

The Prime Minister has ordered the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Industry and Trade to submit a plan to raise electricity prices from March in a directive issued Friday.
The finance ministry is considering price schemes proposed from its agencies in which input costs, inflation control, and impacts on daily life are all taken into account, an internal source said.
The premier has also requested the industry and trade ministry to ensure enough supply of power for the country as well as keeping a close eye on electricity projects.
Power prices were lifted up by 6.8 percent to VND1,037 (US$0.05) per kilowatt in March last year after the two aforementioned ministries had proposed a 10.7 percent increase.
The two have also been asked to adjust prices of other important utilities like coal and gasoline.
