The records include “the largest cave system,” Phong Nha-Ke Bang with 300 caves; “the longest underground river system” including Son River, Chay River and Trooc River, 20 kilometers in length; “the largest cave dome system,” Son Doong, with a length of 200 meters and a height of 250 meters; “the longest east-west branches of the Ho Chi Minh Trail,” which is 230 kilometers long; “the hottest mineral stream” in Le Thuy District with temperatures of 105 C; “the longest coastline and sand-bank,” 116.04 kilometers in length; “the narrowest province in Vietnam,” around 50 kilometers wide; “the longest dry cave,” Paradise Cave which is 31.4 kilometers long; “the longest wooden bridge” with a length of 100 meters; “the most unique stalactite system” in Paradise Cave; and “the resort with the longest sea surface and river surface” at Sun Spa Resort.
Local authorities say the recognition can help attract more tourists.
UNESCO also recognized the province’s Phong Nha and Thien Duong caves in the province’s Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park as a World Heritage Site in 2003.
