American Idol star arrives in Vietnam for concerts
David Archuleta, the American Idol runner up in 2008, arrived in Ho Chi Minh City yesterday.
He will perform at concerts in the city and Hanoi on July 22 and 24.
“Idol Music Event 2011” will also feature some top Vietnamese singers like Ho Ngoc Ha, Dam Vinh Hung, Ngo Thanh Van, Dong Nhi, Bao Thy, and Noo Phuoc Thinh, and the 2010 Vietnam Idol winner Uyen Linh and runner-up Van Mai Huong.
Hundreds of fans were at Tan Son Nhat Airport with flowers and banners to welcome him.
Archuleta, who was dressed simply, was friendly despite his long flight, and waved at the fans.
He went straight to the Military Zone 7 Stadium to rehearse for the show tonight.
At 8pm he spoke to the media, holding forth on his musical ambitions, experiences, and future plans.
He said he could not wait for the show where he is scheduled to sing his hits and numbers from his latest album “The other side of down.”
But he will not sing together with any of the Vietnamese singers as fans had hoped.
David James Archuleta, 21, started singing at six and in 2008 released his first album, “David Archulleta.” It rose to number two on the American Billboard top 200 and sold more than 900,000 worldwide.
“The other side of down” is ranked 13th.
Interestingly, David Cook, the man who beat Archuleta to win the reality show, performed at the Hennessy Artistry show in Hanoi last month.
