Laptop sales surged 38 percent in the second quarter

Vietnam’s computer market rebounded in the second quarter on strong laptop sales, according to a recent report by market research firm IDC.

The market grew by 6.6 percent from the first quarter and 12 percent over the same period last year, picking up from a slump of 27 percent in the first three months, the company said.

Based on the recovery, IDC forecasts that the market will grow 12 percent this year.

Around 462,400 computers were sold in Vietnam in the second quarter ending June, with laptops accounting for 41 percent.

While desktop sales sank 8 percent due to budget cuts at state-funded projects and small- and medium-sized enterprises, laptop sales surged 38 percent from the first quarter.

IDC said the market will continue its rising trend this quarter as a new school year has just started and many companies are launching more promotion campaigns.
