Samsung's mobile phone factory in Vietnam

South Korea’s Samsung Electronics announced Friday that its mobile phone factory in Vietnam has recorded an export turnover of US$1 billion, making the plant one of the company's most successful projects worldwide.

Samsung, the world’s second-largest maker of mobile phones, opened the $670 million plant in the northern province of Bac Ninh in April last year.

The plant, the first of its kind in Vietnam, mostly makes mobile handsets for export, shipping its products to 52 markets around the world. Its monthly output has increased six times since July, reaching six million units per month.

Speaking at a ceremony to celebrate the $1 billion export figure, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai hailed the efforts of Samsung’s staff and local authorities in developing the plant.

He said Samsung Vietnam has proved its competitiveness by exporting its products to many countries.
